Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Virtual Development Engineer at our Superior Township, Michigan facility:

The Vehicle Control Software department in Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is a research and development team that focuses on developing innovative features that enhance dynamics, controllability, and efficiency of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles for the North American (NA) market. The team's key roles and responsibilities are:

  • New Technology Introduction to spearhead new technology concepts for future generation vehicle drive and motion control experiences for the NA market through in-house development as well as strategic partnerships with key technology hubs such as universities, startups and research labs
  • Control Algorithm Development to expand Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicle control capabilities in coordination with the R&D Headquarters and other internal/external project partners
  • Prototyping and Demonstration to develop prototypes and proof of concept demonstrations to various global teams within Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) for new vehicle control software functions targeted for the NA market
  • Virtual Development to develop and maintain simulation tools and environments that enable co-simulation of algorithms and virtual calibration optimization
  • Software Strategy and Planning to identify market trends and customer needs for key experience themes and selection of new concept ideas
  • Data Analysis for Production Applications to support requirements development and verification and software updates to improve product performance in the NA market.

As a Virtual Development Engineer within our growing team, you will lead and support the following:

Key Activities:

  • Analyze the feasibility and the impact of the new control system through simulation and testing utilizing a co-simulation environment
  • Build virtual processes integrating multiple simulation tools in developing new control algorithms and testing/optimizing/validating the performance
  • Utilize Simulation and model based development tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Simscape, GT-SUITE, CarMaker, CarSim, PTV Vissim, etc.
  • Run testing via chassis dyno, proving ground, or on road to validate simulation model match to real vehicle behavior
  • Bring fresh ideas, depth and technical expertise within our growing team
  • Plant model creation / refinement
  • Vehicle dynamics modeling
  • Develop and maintain simulation tools and environments
  • Create simplified control models
  • Control software integration for simulation
  • Develop scripts to automate the building and running of virtual test environments
  • Co-simulation performance optimization
  • Assist teams with adopting and using virtual development environments
  • Virtual validation of algorithms
  • Virtual calibration via simulation
  • Interface with technical experts and subject matter experts from the R&D Headquarters in South Korea to establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with our global partners

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study
  • 3+ years of experience with vehicle motion control systems and interfaces
  • Experience using CAE based tools such as CarSim, CarMaker, GT Power, Simscape, VISSIM, or similar
  • First principles vehicle dynamics modeling experience
  • Familiar with vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, etc.
  • Experience in tool development using Matlab and Simulink
  • Ability to understand and interpret C code
  • Strong interpersonal and technical problem solving skills
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S./PhD in Control System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Automotive Engineering from an accredited university
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining SIL and HIL virtual development platforms
  • Expertise in integrating various models, virtual ECUs, and third-party components into a coherent simulation platform
  • Experience utilizing the FMI standard for the exchange of dynamic simulation models
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink modeling and simulation of plant and control systems is highly desired
  • Experience with 1-D physical modeling tools such as AVL-CRUISE or GT-SUITE
