This position reports directly to the General Supervisor, Fertilizer.
This position is located in Aurora, North Carolina, U.S.A. and is not available for remote work.
What you will do:
The Day Supervisor is responsible for leading the safe execution of the daily duties of the Solids department at Nutrien in Aurora with a focus on daily production needs. The Day Supervisor plans, directs, coordinates, and executes daily activities based on the published schedule or directive. Monitors the progress of daily activities, deals with any identified obstacles that limit the productivity of the day crew, conducts site visits to ensure that all assigned work is performed in a safe manner and provides direct supervision of the Solids Day Crew.
Works directly with employees to helpensurethat the company's business objectives and safety, health & environmental policies are met
Utilizes knowledge and understanding of all plant equipment to ensure optimum production
Monitors recycle inventory and assist with planning and reprocessing
Oversees DAPOS/MAPOS processing and loading
Conducts crew meetings, assists safety team with inspections and getting problems solved. Encourage and participate with the Day crew in Safety Improvement and Continuous Improvement projects
Ensures that employees have all necessarysafety equipment, and they use it properly. Follow-up on safety problems to help reduce first aid cases and recordable cases
Communicates with employees about company goals, policies, and procedures. Properly documents all training/SOP reviews with the crews
Monitors and evaluates all environmental controls and records to ensure there are no letters of non-compliance
Provides timely and documented updates to employees of changes in the SOPs on environmental issues
Participates with the various teams and initiatives for the area. Fresh water reduction team, Continuous Improvement, etc.
Encourages and plans for each employee to attend all scheduled and available trainings
Oversees carwash facility in the Mine (MSHA Jurisdiction) area to ensure operators are properly trained in inspection and cleaning of hoppers and plans schedule accordingly to ensure enough hoppers are ready for loading
Encourages and oversees cross-training to promote/achieve employees' development
Ensures all task training forms are complete and ready for review when requested
Provides support for onboarding of new employees and contractors in Fertilizer and Solids Shipping
Prepares work orders for repairs and maintenance of equipment
Supports the SPA/Fertilizer LMS and provides Fertilizer coverage when LMS is unavailable
Suggests improvements in process or methods and review proposed capital investments utilizing knowledge and experience to ensure improvements
Meets with operations and maintenance work groups to help coordinate routine plant down day activities
Provides turnaround supervision and participates in annual turnaround planning
Makes procedure updates, develops energy isolation check sheets, and follows through with action item completions in the area
Inspects production/loading areas and wash track to ensure the plant is ready for scheduled visits and audits, including quarterly SHE inspections, MSHA inspections and any corporate visits
Responsible for maximizing production of department at or below budgeted cost
What you will bring:
High School diploma or equivalent
Must meet all the requirements on the supervisory promotion checklist
Have at least 5 years' experience at this site, a minimum of competent rating on last performance appraisal and better-than-average attendance record
Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the operations of the Fertilizer department
Knowledge and ability to inspect the entire plant for proper operation and for Safety and Environmental issues is required
Incumbent should have a thorough knowledge of the Solids Loading and Plant systems
