With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. Central Engineering is KLA's largest engineering organization comprised of 9 Centers-of-Excellence (CoE) in various disciplines applied across all product groups in the company. These CoE include Handling & Automation, Precision Motion Control, Sensors & Image Acquisition, Platform Design, and Packaging Engineering, among others. KLA is looking for summer interns at our Ann Arbor, Michigan location. This position provides an opportunity to work with engineering teams on projects aiming to improve the performance and capabilities of KLA's inspection and metrology tools!
In particular, the intern would work in one or more of the following areas: Design, model and analyze complex opto-mechanical systems to fit requirements within specified physical limits of precision optical instruments using software tools including sequential and non-sequential ray tracing software (Zemax, CODEV, LightTools or equivalent) and designing its mounting/housing through CAD modeling (Creo Parametric or equivalent). Perform stray-light analysis, physical-optics modeling, and design of the opto-mechanical components. Design and/or specify high-precision optical components and modules, such as lasers, LEDs, optical fibers, cameras, detectors, and lens systems. Conduct thermal and structural FEA of the opto-mechanical system. Set-up, alignment, and optimization of opto-mechanical systems.
Requirements:
Solid understanding of optics theory and opto-mechanical systems. Experience with design software (Zemax, CodeV) and practical experience with statistical analysis is a plus. Proficient in 3D solid modeling using CAD, preferably ProE/Creo is desired. Hands-on experience with optical set-ups and lasers is a plus. Experience with FEA simulations for structural and thermal analysis is a plus.
