Manager, Electronic Design Engineer

Job Description:

The role is to manage the Aerospace and Defense module product development group whose purpose is to develop, qualify, and commercialize optoelectronic modules. This role will include the planning of product development projects, hiring world class talent, managing staff to complete projects on time and on budget, work with staff to ensure appropriate career advancement opportunities are available and maintain a product development pipeline that enables MACOM to have a steady flow of new products being commercialized. The individual must be self-motivated and will be working with Product Line Management to maintain a product roadmap that will increase the MACOM market share and SAM.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute product development projects in the areas of Free Space Optical Communications products for terrestrial, space, airborne applications.
  • Work with Product Line Management to identify new markets and product families that have sufficient profit opportunity or strategic value to justify MACOM's investment and will increase MACOM's Serviceable Available Market (SAM).
  • Work with semiconductor device development organizations to ensure that PDs, lasers and subassemblies will be available to support the product development projects.
  • Hire and manage staff, establishing goals and objectives.
  • Manage and coach staff to enable them to grow in their careers and increase their effectiveness as individual contributors.
  • Maintain, with PLM, product and technology roadmaps that will ensure a pipeline of new industry leading products are continually being developed and commercialized.

Job Qualifications:

  • MS in EE, Physics or Materials Science
  • 10+ years' experience in product development of high-speed, high-performance laser transmitters and/or optical receivers.
  • Excellent teamwork and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound analytical techniques and ability to solve problems systematically.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications technology - analog and digital testing methodologies and requirements.
  • Familiarity with qualification of products for space and terrestrial applications.
  • Understanding on semiconductor device physics is a plus.
